Introduce yourself to the class and tell us a little about you.
Color of Woman is who I am. Thinking about bringing more color to the industry more change is necessary to carry out the assignment.
What degree are you here for?
I am here for Graphic Design. The art I’ve created has been with mixed media, as a result the outcome has landed me here. I’ve worked with many talented entrepreneurs that have established a network of following in the industry.
What artist, media, project, or event made you want to pursue it?
Graphite, Oil paintings, sculptures and more
Tell us about some of your media interests. What music artists are you currently checking for?
The music industry is clamming for something new like the sound of creation has shifted within culture of all types of sound waves. The Hip-Hop and R&B souls of Midtown and Deathrow have made it an open seat for producers and singer and or rappers to have a name.
What are some films and/or animations you enjoy?
This is a discussion for Denzel Washington. The film industry has made its way to continuing the path of gift and talent. To someone who is looking to become a great role model and leader. I believe he’s the person to learn and follow as you make your own footsteps filming for tradition and non-tradition
Binge anything good on a streaming service lately?
I watch classic show’s like: Martin, The Parkers, Jamie Foxx etc
Are there some comics, graphic novels, or manga you are into?
Back in the day I was a collector of the book BONE, you can’t find it anymore but what I would pay to have another copy of the series. The entire book was comic, and the storyline was impeccable.
The reason I value education for my own personal reasons is due to my fear of being another statistic African American viewed by society as another kid that didn’t make it in life. I chose to have the career I have simply because it was always a dream that was destined to be followed and I was the only one in those footsteps who could carry out the dream. I started drawing at a young age. My cousin Shameka was the one who actually put a pen and pencil in my hand and told me to give it a try after watching her draw some of the most amazing Dragon Ball Z characters. I told my mom at a young age I wanted to be the most famous artist to be signed to a major recorded company just through my art and of course she said what any mother would “I know you can you just have to put in the work and get’r done”.
That’s where it begun right after High School I spent the last of my Social Security and went crazy buying all the art supplies I thought I would need and even spent 600$ for a dozen T-shirts to be printed with my logo on the front and slapped the art I worked long and hard on right on the front. Unfortunate I fell into the hole of not selling any and ending up giving majority of them away for FREE. After experimenting with my sales I promised myself in the next five to ten years I would dedicate myself to learning and groaning as an entrepreneur. I went into the normal life of all work no play. It landed my in a mental state of choosing to build my own empire instead of working to build someone else’s empire.
One day while working for Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers one of my co-works mothers came to me and said “how would you like to work for yourself and earn a million-dollar profit”. As anyone would say yes. So the company she worked for ended up being one of to most top paid Networking companies called WorldVentures. I started right away after seeing how many people earned a living by just living and not to mention of BMW. I was in for three years and decided wow this is harder than expected and got out not knowing my life would never be the same.
I was actually able to travel and not stress but where there’s tough there’s always a hidden blessing. Durning my time with the company I made myself network with a group of like minded individuals who were also getting there own empires together creating anything you could think of. While in High School I began a name for myself Thatpoet and the Lz popped up a little later after realizing I could go far and actually pay my way through school with art and poetry.
On campus I was very popular for my outstanding look on life through visual art and landscaping. Outside of school I learned to grow a name just as anyone during this time via social media placing all my artwork and poetry on blogs such as Twitter and Wordpress. I even created a website that has clothing that I’ve designed and made business cards (which haven’t been the best) to get people to come and take a finer look at the dream I’ve worked on for many years now. My dad may he rest in love was a huge inspiration growing up. Even though he’s here in spirit for me I needed that love that carried over for many years to feel like I was establishing something for my kids and their kids and so on.
My mother also supported me during school helping with gallery ideas. I remember my first art exhibit I had it with my presentation for WorldVentures. I was able to meet other leaders in the company who are artist as well they’ve been great mentors to me still this day. Every trip I took I made sure I went to a museum for example we had a convention in Baltimore and took the train to DC and Washington and viewed the galleries and they all were so breathtaking. History in the making is what we called that trip we could see ourselves being the next generation to do the exact same thing ten times better.
Finally, my goals after school are to finish and start marketing and branding with artist whose vision is like Jean-Michel Basquiat who affiliated with a character in branded with Kanye West. Hoping that one day I too will be as big as the Levi Jean Co. and that’s just where I need to start never to finish but always create.
